Big traffic increase in November

Airports of Thailand’s November traffic report for its six airports showed a 22.84% increase in aircraft movements, while passenger movements surged 33.85% compared to the same month last year.

At the start of the winter schedule, 1 November, there were 190 aircraft movements more than that recorded in October and international passengers also increased by around 130,000.

Domestic aircraft movements were up by 255 movements, but domestic passengers dropped by 14,800.

However,  traffic is still in the minus zone when compared with last year – down 5.09% for aircraft movements and minus 4.89% for passengers.

At the national gateway, Suvarnabhumi Airport welcomed 33.76% more international passengers than in November 2008, while international aircraft moments were up 16.55%.

Combined domestic traffic at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang showed a 29.57% increase in aircraft movements and a 40.63% increase in passengers.

At the southern gateway, Phuket Airport, international traffic increased slightly over last year by 4.99% for aircraft movements and 2.45% for passengers. Meanwhile, domestic traffic surged 37.94% and 39.21% respectively; the highest increases compared with last year.

Chiang Mai Airport’s international traffic in November was negative. The destination failed to attract direct international services because of a lack of local outbound demand. Aircraft movements dropped 14.29% and passengers dropped 19.28%.

On the domestic front, Chiang Mai is popular among Thais during the cool season. Domestic aircraft movements jumped 34.3%, while passenger movements leaped 37.99%.

At Chiang Rai Airport, domestic tourism boom improved by 64.5% in aircraft movements and 56.07% in passengers. Hat Yai saw a 74.6% increase in aircraft movements, while passenger traffic grew 41.01%.
