Thailand certainly deserves its global reputation as an appealing vacation destination. The legendary Thai hospitality, soft sand beaches and colourful local culture combine to offer visitors the ultimate holiday. The mild tropical climate guarantees year round warmth and the national cuisine provides the perfect complement to any trip.
Once known as Siam, the Kingdom of Thailand has always maintained its own distinctive character. No foreign power has ever colonised the country, instead, foreign influences and 'internationalization' have created an appealing blend of inspirations that offer visitors the best of all worlds. Holiday makers can combine fascinating cultural experiences with sophisticated luxury and natural wonders, guaranteeing a memorable travel experience and total relaxation.
A large percentage of Thai people speak some English, which makes traveling easy. At every airport, train station and ferry pier there will be someone on hand to offer help and advice. Thailand is also a safe place to visit as foreigners are generally treated with courtesy and respect. In all the main tourist destinations, including Koh Samui, Phuket, Bangkok and Chiang Mai, well trained, English speaking staff take a relaxed, friendly approach to service. With even a small amount of Thai, however, visitors will find their time in the Kingdom even more rewarding as local people really appreciate the effort.
Most people who visit Thailand head for the beach. The country's tropical islands boast picture perfect swaying palms, azure water and dramatic limestone outcroppings. Thailand is famous for its white sandy beaches and swaying coconut trees. Water sports are an obvious choice in a country famed for its oceans and Scuba Diving, snorkeling and kayaking are all available in multiple locations. Inland from the coast, Thailand also offers more than 100 national parks, many of which provide a home for some of Asia's most fascinating flora and fauna. Those who prefer city life can spend time in Bangkok or Chiang Mai, both bustling, vibrant centres with a range of dining, shopping and entertainment choices, as well as interesting temples, museums and galleries that offer insights into Thailand's incredible history and culture.
Visitors interested in learning a new skill during their vacation are welcomed at many of the country's monasteries and temples, where they can study meditation techniques and learn more about Buddhism and spirituality. Wellness centres also offer courses in alternative health and yoga, while for those with culinary flare, Thai cooking classes are a popular holiday activity. Students learn first hand how to prepare the perfect Thai curry or carve the intricate patterns so often seen in the fruit served at Thai tables.
Many visitors from around the world simply choose Thailand for its exotic sights and relaxed way of life. MOst people return several times to enjoy the warm hospitality, delightful scenery and quality services on offer during a vacation.
